Magnet Factory
Released Feb. 9, 2024

The 11-song set organically grew out of jams and writing sessions over several years. As the album took shape, the lyrics peeled away at the layers of time and shared spaces that make up a life. A pair of unrecorded songs by seminal Athens, GA band Pylon were brought in to round out this collective unspoken theme. All the music was recorded by the current four members of the band (Vanessa Briscoe Hay, Jason NeSmith, Kay Stanton, Gregory Sanders) with a stellar vocal duet with the incomparable Kate Pierson of The B-52’s.

Uncut Magazine awarded the album an 8/10 rating, saying “'Magnet Factory’ finds the quartet in scintillating form, shifting smartly between angular noise-pop and nervy punk-funk, topped with Hay’s spiky vocals... a terrific debut from American post-punk veterans.”

The Associated Press said, “...Amid the algorithm-driven din that now fills earbuds, ‘Magnet Factory’ sounds as fresh as Pylon first did... the band is an irresistible blend of simplicity and synchronicity, the music both edgy and therapeutic.”

Pop Matters wrote, “Pylon Reenactment Society has crafted an album that is fresh, fierce, bright and dynamic.”

"Christmas Daze" performed by Pylon Reenactment Society. Recorded and mixed by David Barbe at Chase Park Transduction Studio.

It's a digital single released November 4, 2024 at Under the Radar."

“Christmas Daze” is a brisk and understated effort, one that meditates on the lonely side of the holiday but also brims with a welcoming energy. Briscoe Hay’s vocals are warm and lilting while the rhythm section brings the track along at a steady propulsive pace, carried by an ever-present bass riff and shimmering bursts of guitar. The lush washes of guitar and tambourine that accent the song feel like Christmas lights going on and off, punctuating the track’s lyrics with cozy swells of melody and gentle rays of hope.

Briscoe Hay says of the track, “This song was written very quickly between Christmas and New Years Eve right before we recorded it. Kay Stanton played a bass riff and it just fell into place. The guitar and percussion fit into the vibe perfectly. For the lyrics, I contemplated what it must be like for a single person who finds themselves alone during what is a very festive season for most. She goes on a journey to and from her family home, runs out of gas, but manages to find inspiration and meaning in the simple beauties of the holiday.”
